Last night I attended the most beautiful, unique event. Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach! Being an artistic person my whole life, I’ve been wanting to see this for years. If you aren’t familiar with what goes on here, let me fill you in. People volunteer to perform at Pageant of the Masters by becoming real life paintings. Classic, old paintings or sculptures are recreated by real people through makeup, lighting, and angles. The hardest part about this though, is they have to stay completely still for 90 seconds. I can’t even explain to you how true to the paintings these scenes are. If I didn’t know there were actual people up there, I would have thought they were the paintings themselves. Through each painting, there is a narration about the history of it and some background on artists. They also have some music going in the background as well.
It was such a great experience and the venue was absolutely stunning. Laguna Beach is a beautiful city, and VERY artistic. Around every corner there’s art galleries. I think that’s a big reason why I love going to Laguna so much. The venue where this took place was similar to the Hollywood Bowl, but on a smaller scale. It was open and outside, so if you plan on going, definitely take a blanket. Also, binoculars are very important. We had seats in the back so we used those during the majority of the show. However, there’s actually booth where you can rent blankets and binoculars if you forget anything. With this lovely atmosphere combined with the brilliance of the show, it turned out to be a memorable experience. Exactly what I was hoping for! If you’re an artsy person or majoring in the arts, I definitely recommend taking a trip to go see this!
Also, forgot to mention there’s art exhibits before the show where you can walk around and look at different artists’ works!
