Hello beach bunnies! As some of you may know, I spend a lot of time on Tumblr (you can check out my blog here). It gives me a lot of artistic inspiration when it comes to graphic design and art in general. What I’m about to show you is something I saw on Tumblr and tried to recreate myself. So I’d like to give credit of this idea to whoever posted it first! Anyways, here’s what I came up with and I’ll explain more down below 🙂
So I’m not really sure what to call this, but I created an eye makeup look on my hand. I just thought this idea was so unique and is a great way to practice any style of makeup! I have hooded eyelids, so sometimes if I’m going for a more dramatic look, it can end up a little muddy. Since I created a whole new eye shape on my hand, it was easier for me to practice the smoky cut crease I was going for. Plus, the cleanup was easier to wipe off my hand as opposed to pulling at the skin around my eye and potentially creating future wrinkles.
How to do this yourself:
If you’d like to practice some looks on your hand, which is way less of a hassle than practicing on your own eye, follow these steps! I started by taking a very light colored eye pencil, for example a white or a light brown, and drew the lash line, the crease, and where the brow would go.
I then began to create the look as I would do on my eye. I took a fluffy brush and applied a transition shade in the “crease” with my Laura Mercier bronzer. I’ve been really into using bronzer as a transition shade lately!
I then started on the eyeshadow that would be placed on the “lid”. I started with the lightest shimmery shade and layered on the darker shades later. I made sure to keep the darker shades on the outer third of my “eye” and blend them into the crease. Once that was all blended nicely, I went to the eyeliner.
The eyeliner is the most precise portion of any makeup look. I have to say it was way easier to practice a wing on my hand than it was on my eye, for obvious reasons! I created it the same way I would on my eye: in little strokes and winging it out so it would connect with the end of my brow if it were to extend that long. I used my Stila Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Dark Brown. I’ve been so obsessed with using brown for eyeliner instead of a harsh black for the summer!
I then went to creating an eyebrow. I didn’t spend too much time on it since the shadow was the main focus. I took my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe and made tiny, quick lines to mimic eyebrow hairs. To make this more flawless, I added a light shimmery shadow under the arch of the brow to highlight. This highlight combined with the bronzer transition shade in the crease gives the eye a sense of dimension, even though it is only a 2D image on your hand!
To finish off, I took a black pencil liner to create little eyelashes. I wish I could’ve had a sharper pencil for this, but it did add some nice details regardless of some minor flaws. This look was surprisingly super fun to create and made for such a unique photo! It is also up on my Instagram, which you can check out here if you’re curious about what other photos I post. Let me know if you recreated this yourself or if you made a completely different look! Tag me on Instagram if you did @sageoliviablog! I’d love to see what you come up with! Have an amazing day everyone! <3
