Hi loves! I’m so sorry I haven’t been as consistent with my post as usual. As most of you know, I moved into my new dorm and started my third year of college. That’s crazy to say and to write. However, I honestly think it’s going to be one of the best years of college for me. The first couple of years had their high highs and some low lows. This year though, is off to a great start and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings for me and my friends!
I want to touch on some major things that have happened in just the past couple of weeks. Firstly, move in day was actually way better than any other year. Of course, it brought its stresses but I suppose the more you do something, the easier it gets. I think it was easier simply because I knew exactly what I needed and what I would never use. When you’re moving into college as a freshman, you tend to overpack. (At least I did, since I didn’t have a car to go out and buy whatever I needed that day). But this year I knew the things that I would be using often and things I had in boxes only because “there might be a time when I need this.”
Secondly, (and a more exciting event I may add), I am the design editor for my college’s yearbook this year! I haven’t gotten too involved in different clubs at my school for various reasons, and I’ve been looking for an opportunity to branch out and challenge myself, especially with graphic design or art. I’ve taken more than half of the graphics classes my school offers so far and I think I’m ready to tackle a bigger project. I have never worked on a yearbook before, but I’m hoping my creative and organizational skills will pull through for me. I’m confident in my artistic skills and actually this blog has given me the confidence to try new things. Many people don’t realize, but one blog post could take a few hours depending on the content. For example if I decide to post an OOTD, there is a list of steps that I have to take before even getting online. I have to decide on the look I’m going for with an outfit, set up my camera/tripod, take the photos (it takes a while to get the perfect set of photos), download them off my camera to my phone or computer, edit them (some photos need to be put into PicMonkey for further editing), and finally write and insert the photos into a new WordPress post. By the time this is all done a few hours have gone by. What I’m trying to get across is that I don’t think the processes of blogging are too far off from the processes that go into putting a yearbook together. At least, I hope they aren’t… But I think it will be good for me to get out of my comfort zone. Also, my professors have encouraged me to pursue this, given me confidence and advice, which I appreciate more than anything. I am so looking forward to working with the team and making a bomb yearbook for my school this year!
As for my classes this year, I am taking a couple of G.E.’s including Poetry and Spanish along with a few major classes like Digital Photography, Branding, and Web Design. I am especially into my Web Design class since we will be taught coding and how to put together a successful and efficient website. I’m hoping this will help me with my blog since I do have the coding feature that comes with WordPress Premium. It’s a skill I’ve been wanting to learn for a while and something I think is very useful in today’s world and in the technology we use everyday. So who knows! My blog may be getting more detailed and look more professional as the semester goes on since it’ll be a great place to practice what I’ve been taught.
Last but not least, my bed area in my room is pretty much completed so I would love to get some photos up soon. As you’ve heard before, I went with a very modern/simplistic look with black, white, gray, and splashes of light pink. I really planned out my room this year and I think it turned out pretty cute. Again, I will try to be more consistent with my posts since my blog is becoming increasingly important in my schooling and with myself. I will always find some time to fit it in between homework, designing/editing the yearbook, friends, and family. I love writing and sharing special things on here and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Thanks everyone, have a great end of the week!! ❤
