Fenty Beauty vs. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer!

Hey loves! I know many of you keep up with the beauty community, so I’m sure you’ve heard of the new Fenty Beauty line by Rihanna. After hearing so many reviews of it and endless beauty gurus on YouTube raving about it, I decided to try it out one day while I was in Sephora. I had one of the workers there match me to the correct tone. She was very helpful and informative about the product, so I’ll include some of her tips in the review below. Also, if you’ve seen any of my beauty related posts, you’d know that I am obsessed with the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. It’s one of the only products I’ll wear every single day. So I thought today I would give a whole list of similarities and differences between Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Foundation and the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer that I’m all too familiar with. Enjoy!

I think I’ll start off with Fenty Beauty! The first thing I noticed about this foundation is the simple packaging. Rihanna kept the font easy to read and chose a white lid and a translucent bottle. There’s some super beautiful and professional looking about it. A lot of makeup brands like Kat Von D and Urban Decay choose to go with more vibrant packaging, but I like how minimalistic Rihanna and her team went with this.

When I was at Sephora, one of the things the makeup artist mentioned about this specific foundation was how drying it is. This didn’t scare me too much considering I have very oily skin. Her advice was to make sure I used a moisturizer, which I usually do when I have my La Mer on hand. She was definitely correct with saying this. The first time I tried it out, it was definitely more dry than any other foundation I’ve used. But honestly, I didn’t mind too much. I’d rather start out more dry and add highlighter to look more glowy than to start off my makeup with an ultra damp foundation. That’s probably just me though because sometimes I get tired of my skin always looking more on the oily side. I’m not sure if the dryness is visible on the swatch, but it definitely felt more dry than say the Laura Mercier foundation or the tinted moisturizer.

As for the color, it matches me very well! I definitely still need to wear bronzer, but I use that with anything. I also wanted to touch on the consistency. I was shocked by how light and almost watery this foundation is, especially considering the high coverage it gives. It is in no way thick like some foundations and it doesn’t get cakey very quick, which I appreciate. I have been applying this with a beauty blender, but I think because of this light consistency, most of it is getting absorbed into the sponge. I am going to try applying this with a real techniques brush soon and see if that yields an easier application. The last thing I will touch on is how many shades Rihanna has offered to her customers. One of the main reasons people have been loving this so much is because there is a shade for every person. Whether you have flawless, snow white skin or a gorgeous ultra dark tone, there is something for you! And I think that is seriously so awesome and shows exactly what Rihanna stands for!

Up next: the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (Oil Free)! For so long I was using the normal Laura Mercier foundation until I switched to the tinted moisturizer last year. It was recommended by my roommate and I’m so glad she mentioned it to me! Having skin issues for so long, foundation was really clogging my pores and was extremely heavy on my skin. Once I switched to this tinted moisturizer, I realized how much lighter it was and how my skin started clearing up a bit. It didn’t give as much coverage as the foundation, but it is completely buildable.

This moisturizer is obviously way more damp than the Fenty Beauty foundation. I use the moisturizer as a replacement for foundation, so it makes sense that the end result would be different. With Fenty Beauty, I could pull off wearing the foundation on its own without a translucent powder to set it. However, with this tinted moisturizer I 100% need to apply a layer of translucent powder over the top. If I didn’t, I would look like an oily mess, haha! While the moisturizer is a lot lighter, it requires that extra step to obtain a more flawless finish. I’m again not sure if it’s apparent in this photo, but it is more wet upon application than Fenty Beauty. Let me know if any of you can see a difference between the swatches! I could definitely feel the difference since I applied them back to back. It’s interesting that while the Fenty Beauty foundation is more watery than the moisturizer, the moisturizer gives a more glowy look.

There is no way you could go wrong with either one of these products. I definitely understand the hype with Fenty Beauty, but sometimes it’s great to just go with the classics and what works best for your skin type. The Fenty Beauty foundation I wear more when I go out at night since it is more long wear and the tinted moisturizer is perfect for your day to day activities and daily makeup routine. I personally believe they’re both worth the purchase. You can find any Laura Mercier product at Nordstrom and as mentioned before, Fenty Beauty can be found at Sephora.

P.S. I just came home for Thanksgiving Break, so I’m back in the O.C.! I also came home to a ton of Christmas decorations, so get used to seeing those in the background. Hope you like them! Let me know down in the comments which you prefer or if you’ve tried out the new Fenty Beauty foundation, I’d love to know your opinions on it! xx
