Summer in Review (Where I Went & What I Accomplished)

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday! Summer is sadly coming to an end and a new season is upon us. I thought for today’s post I’d take a little trip down memory lane and go through some of the things I did this summer and what I accomplished. This summer was a big one for me, so I definitely want to remember it. Of course, a blog post is the best way to do that! I’ll be starting with May 2018 and making my way through the season to right now, September 2018. Let’s begin!

May

Right off the bat, this summer started off with a bang! This month marked my final weeks of college. Those four years were coming to an end and I was finishing up my final units. It was also the last month in my first apartment! On the 5th of May, I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. It was one of the most surreal and proudest moments of my life. College came with lots of ups and downs, so these years coming to an end was very bittersweet to me. I was excited about the coming months and curious what the future would bring for me.

Through the month of June I gave myself a mental break and took some time to relax and literally do nothing. I had been in school for 16 years of my life, so I think a little break was good for me. I was anticipating the coming month of June for a very exciting trip with my family, so the excitement was coming to a peak!

June

It was finally time: I was headed back to London and Paris! Not with my school this time, but with those closest to me! We left May 31st and stayed until June 12th. London is my absolutely favorite place in the world (as I’ve said probably too many times on this blog, LOL). It was just as gorgeous as I’d left it the summer before and I’ve been dying to go back for a third visit. In Paris, our hotel was right beside the Eiffel Tower, so we watched it sparkle from where we were staying. The best part of the trip was showing my family around some of the places closest to my heart. I will always be in awe of Europe and it was one of the best trips of my life (both times!)

I also tried to soak up the sun as much as possible during this month. The summer sun was out and the beaches were beautiful and blue. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is go to the beach, swim in the ocean, or simply tan by the pool. There is nothing better than my hometown in the summertime!

July

Once I arrived back in the states, I had a job lined up with a retail store. I wanted to start working as soon as possible to start saving for another apartment. (I am planning to stay at home for about a year to work and then hoping to move to L.A.) While I was working full time at a retail store, I was also applying to graphic design and social media jobs. All my free time was going into job applications and attending interviews as well as trying to run my blog and my social media platforms. I was on that adult grind for the first time and to be honest, it was quite stressful. The waiting process to hear back from possible employers was nerve wracking and I was itching to start a more serious career. I didn’t have a necessarily positive experience at my retail job, so I couldn’t wait to start something I was truly passionate about!

The 4th of July is the halfway mark of the summer, so the holiday is very bittersweet for me. We usually drive down to the pier and watch the fireworks sparkle above the ocean. I always envy the surfers who get to sit on their boards out in the water and watch the beautiful lights. They have the best view in the entire country in my opinion. This year though, I don’t have to leave my city after the summer ends since your girl is graduated!! The Fourth was a bit more sweet this year.

August

Once August rolled around, all my efforts had finally paid off! My very first interview ended up offering me a graphic design job! There was a point in July when I thought I might never find a great job, but I was so wrong. If you put enough effort into something and are motivated to achieve something, it will always come through. I put in my two weeks at my retail job and was extremely excited to start this new adult chapter of my life. At the very end of August, I started a graphic design position at Locale Lifestyle Magazine in Orange County. I’ve been with the company for about a month now; the office is absolutely gorgeous and my coworkers have been extremely patient and kind to me. It’s been crazy to see my design work up on the website and on the Locale Instagram. If you’d like to check out what we do at the magazine and look into any events we have coming up, please head over to localemagazine.com!

September

That brings us to this month, September! This summer went so incredibly fast, I don’t really know where the time went. I currently am working full time at the magazine and working hard on Instagram and my other social medias on the side. My blog and various social media platforms are such great hobbies for me creatively and what I look forward to doing on the weekends. My schedule has basically been: work during the day, get home and relax or work on my blog/YouTube/Instagram, plan for my blog on the weekend and go out with friends, and repeat every week. I’m definitely still on that hustle, but I know it’s what I’m meant to do right now and it’s going very well. I like working hard and reaping the benefits of being passionate about something. I am getting more comfortable at my new job everyday and have released a new YouTube video every week (you can subscribe here if you like!) I’m excited for what the rest of the year has to bring, especially when it comes to blogging! What was the best part of your summer this year? I’d love to know in the comments! I hope you guys enjoyed this post and have a fantastic rest of your week! xx

Side note: Today is September 11th, marking the anniversary of the attacks in New York. I couldn’t put a post up without mentioning the events of this horrific day. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by these happenings and desperately hope the world can know peace soon in the future. We couldn’t have gotten through it without the firemen and policemen and every person that helped during this event. The states was changed after September 11th, 2001 but we are a stronger country because of it. All my love.

  1. So jealous of your travels and start of your career! You should make a post about ‘a day at your job’ and describe what working at a magazine entails. It’s always been a dream of mine to work for a magazine 🙂

  2. It sounds like you have had such a productive Summer and you will have to return to England shortly seeing as you love it so much! Congratulations on the job – I am glad it is going so well and you are enjoying it. Will you be able to continue with job if you move to LA or will you have to find another one? xx
