Blogmas Day 17: Holiday Sweets and Gift Packages!

Hey everyone! As I was scrolling through Youtube today, there have been some amazing Christmas videos that were posted from some of my favorite creators! There are some awesome recipes I want to try out and some adorable ways to make homemade gifts for your loved ones! I knew a lot of you would appreciate some of these ideas, so here are a few videos for you to enjoy and hopefully bring you some inspiration!

I’ve posted about Zoella so many times on my blog, but she is just so darn cute! I love especially how this video is set up, with her kitchen in the background and all the ingredients organized in front of her. As always, her outfit and nails are totally on point and she make it very clear how to bake these Christmasy cupcakes. I really love the gold foil cupcake tins she uses and the bright colors of the M&M’s. So many great holiday vibes in this video and really makes me want to get up and bake!

Ah Remi, another favorite! She always posts the most creative ways to decorate food. Especially when it comes to the little reindeer brownies with pretzels as antlers! Her little snacks are loaded with sweets, so I hope you have a major sweet tooth! These are definitely foods that are perfect for occasions, but I wouldn’t recommend eating them very often. I try to stay relatively healthy on this blog and I’ll admit these 100% aren’t healthy snacks. But once in a while it’s okay to splurge and the kiddos in your family will no doubt go crazy for these festive goodies!

I’m not sure if I’ve ver mentioned Siena Mirabella on my blog before, but I absolutely adore her videos! Her aesthetic is always consistent and she has such a snappy yet sweet attitude. I really loved this video, as it gave some great ideas for DIY gifts. Many people appreciate handmade gifts; they definitely come from the heart. Many of these little gift baskets she makes are themed and completely out of the box. Having a theme when it comes to gift boxes is so special and very fun to make! I’ve made little gift boxes that are movie themed and I included popcorn, candy, movies, and other obvious little presents that would work well for a movie night!

Since all the other recipes are not vegan, I though I’d through in this video from Marzia (cutiepiemarzia) for all my vegan readers out there! The main ingredient for these two recipes is oddly Tofu! I’ve never seen Tofu used in desserts before, but honestly I really want to make them for myself! They look absolutely delicious and healthier than many of the desserts we usually make during the Christmas season. Check out these recipes and let me know what you think about them!

That’s all I have for you guys today, I hope all of these videos inspire you to get baking, even if you’re vegan! I love the variety all of these videos have and the amount of creativity is insane. But that’s why I love Youtube so much! Alright, have a great day guys and I’ll talk to you tomorrow in Blogmas Day 18!

Blogmas Day 15: Grab Some Hot Chocolate and a Christmas Movie!

Hello lovlies! If any of you are doing Blogmas, I’m sure by now it’s becoming a struggle to think of something to post everyday. I know it’s definitely like that for me right now! I love staying so current with all my posts but dang, this is getting a bit difficult. Luckily, I had my last critique for finals week last night, so your girl is free for the holidays! While thinking of an idea to post for today, I can’t believe I hadn’t made a list of my favorite Christmas movies yet!! It’s one of the biggest parts of my holidays at home, and I can’t believe I almost forgot about them! Back at home, we have a huge bucket full of holiday movies that we absolutely have to watch every year. I never get tired of them, so if you haven’t seen any from this (long) list, definitely try to check them out for yourself!

Olive, the Other Reindeer

“Every day’s special, I’m not complaining but I’m always counting the days still remaining till Christmas!” Let’s start with a movie that has been one of my favorites for years! A lot of movies on this list are cartoons, and I’m not sorry about it! I actually love the way this animation was created, it’s so unique and almost flat. Olive is a little dog who has never been amused by normal doggo activities like chasing cars or digging up flowers. She hears a broadcast on the radio announcing Santa needs her to help pull his sleigh! With her flea friend Fido and a penguin named Martini, she makes her way to the North Pole all while avoiding an evil postman who wants to ruin Christmas. It’s such an innocent little story and an instant Christmas classic. Drew Barrymore is the voice of Olive, and she really did a great job!

A Christmas Story

“You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!” I’m always surprised by the number of people who have never seen A Christmas Story! I’ve been watching this movie since I was little and you better believe my kids will be watching it too. Ralphie is a little boy who only wants a BB Gun for Christmas. This is a story about his life with his parents and annoying little brother and his attempts at trying to get the ultimately Christmas present. Loaded with 40’s decor and hideous illuminated leg lamps, you can’t miss out on A Christmas Story this holiday season!

Home Alone

“Kevin!!!” Macaulay Culkin is adorable in this holiday movie. There are a few of these Home Alone movies, but the first version is my favorite! Kevin is one of the youngest members of a very large family. They all decide to travel on a family vacation for Christmas but unfortunately (or fortunately) for Kevin, he gets left behind in all the chaos of a large family. Kevin eats junk food, watches movies, jumps on the bed, and ya know, casually one ups some burglars trying to steal valuables in his home all while his family is trying to get back to him. This movie is seriously hilarious and my favorite version of Macaulay Culkin, lol.

The Polar Express

Can you hear the bell ringing? If you can, you definitely have the spirit of Christmas in your heart! How cheesy, but so cute! The Polar Express is another Christmas film that has very interesting animation (some may find it a little creepy, but I think its very unique!) Hop aboard the Polar Express and ride along an insane train track all the way up to the North Pole. Hot chocolate and choreographed chefs included, you’ll also meet a ghost at the top of this train. You’ll get a great glimpse of Santa and the flying reindeer once you make it to the North Pole, so don’t miss out on this Christmas classic! The soundtrack is amazing in this movie, which you can read more about in my Christmas music post on Blogmas Day 2!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

“You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch! You really are a heel. You’re as cuddly as a cactus, you’re as charming as an eel, Mr. Grinch!” Who can forget this little green Christmas monster? I love the old vibe of this movie and how it’s based off of a Dr. Seuss book. Little Cindy Lou Who is an unforgettable character who helps soften the heart of the Grinch. Even though he is out to destroy the holiday and ransacks Whoville, Christmas continues on schedule full of love and happiness. Even the Grinch changes his mind and restores the presents and decorations to the Who’s.

Jingle All the Way

This movie isn’t as much of a classic as the others, but still a movie I like to try and watch every year! Arnold Schwarzenegger is adorable with the little boy who plays his son in this movie. He forgets to buy the one gift his son truly wants for Christmas, so this movie is about his search for that present. Schwarzenegger eventually becomes the father his son needs and has a very successful ending! I still can’t pronounce his name properly by the way!

The Santa Clause

Santa Clause, Scott Calvin? What’s the difference?? What would you do if Santa fell off your roof and your dad immediately became the new Kris Kringle? Charlie and the new Santa head off to the North Pole and most of the movie consists of him trying to convince his father that he is in fact Santa Clause. Eventually Scott comes to his senses and he transforms completely into jolly old St. Nick. This adventurous movie is complete with young and wise elves and a daring attempt to save Santa and ultimately, Christmas! There are also a Santa Clause 2 and 3, which are almost as good as the original, so definitely check those out if you love the first film!

I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown!

This adorable little cartoon from Peanuts is simply unforgettable. The main character Rerun, desperately wants a doggo for Christmas. This is his attempt to find the perfect dog for him, with help from characters like Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Woodstock. This is a short little movie, but great for kids and filled with nostalgia for adults!

Original Christmas Classics Set

Who can forget some of the original Claymation Christmas movies?? Definitely not me! I love Claymations and all the creativity that comes with them. I can’t imagine how long it takes to make a movie like that and the artistic minds that make them. I would personally love to work on a movie set like that! The original Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is in this holiday set as well as Frosty the Snowman and the original story of Santa Clause. I love looking back and watching these old films, it’s just so cozy!

“SANTAAAA, OH MY GOD!!!” Yes, yes I know, so incredibly predictable, Sage! But how could I not include Elf in this list?? Honestly it’s referenced so much in pop culture during this time that it’s getting a bit old. But there are still scenes from this move I have to rewatch every year, so I usually end up watching the whole thing with friends or my family. Honestly, part of me really wants to recreate the breakfast spaghetti plate from this movie, let me know if that would be something you’d want to see in a post. I think it’d be hilarious both to make and to try!

So that completes my Christmas movie list! Did I include any of your favorites or are there some you recommend? Let me know down in the comments! My favorite part about this list is how they’re all on DVD. I don’t think people use them (and definitely not VHS’s) very often anymore, so there’s something special about them all being on DVD. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you guys tomorrow!

xx Sage

P.S. I just made a Facebook page for this blog in order to make my Instagram a business profile! So add me as a friend on there if you’d like (also help because I have zero friends as of right now, lol!)

Blogmas Day 14: My Current Workout Routine

Hey everyone! Happy Blogmas Day 14, we are over halfway through it now! That’s seriously crazy. Today I wanted to make a little post about my current workout routine. Because even though we are surrounded by Christmas goodies and feasts, summer is also a short four months away! I really wanted to start working on my summer bod earlier this year. Especially because my college graduation is in four months, your girl wants to look poppin’!

I have been very good about being consistent with the gym lately, which I’m super happy about. I’ve been going religiously every other day and I’d like to start increasing that. So I split my workout into two different sections (as most people do): leg day and arm/abs day! Each day have their own routines so I’ll do one at a time.

Leg Day

I start off every gym session with cardio. I always feel like I get the most out of my cardio workout, and I personally love kicking everything off that way. I’ve been doing at least 30 minutes of cardio, and recently I have been splitting that up into different machines. I will go on the treadmill (mostly running) for about 10-15 minutes and do the remaining time on the elliptical. The other option is to do the StairMaster for 10 minutes and the remaining 20 on the elliptical. The StairMaster seriously kicks my butt so right now I struggle with doing more than 10 minutes. However you choose to complete it, cardio will give you a great start to any workout routine!

For my legs, first I will use some of the machines that are offered at my gym. I love the ones that work out your inner and outer thighs as well as the ones that imitate squats. Some days I will do the leg raise machine with some weight included. The calf raise machine is also a great one. It seems easy but gives a killer burn. I will then go to the second floor of my gym to the yoga room. I do a couple stretches on a mat and then move into floor work. I will do a set of leg raises upwards, to the sides, and with my leg straight out. I’ll also do some squats if I’m feeling that. I change it up quite a bit to keep it interesting, but my legs are usually shaky by the time I’m done with all of this!

Arm/Abs Day

So of course, I will start out with my cardio. I didn’t mention that my gym has a movie room, which is very dark and has many cardio machines including the StairMaster, treadmills, an elliptical, and stationary bikes. I spend most of my cardio time in there watching some action movies! I’ll then move to some arm machines. I usually do the machine where you pull down on however much weight you want (I’ll do 3 reps of 15). I’ll then move on to the machine where you outstretch your arms and bring them in (again, 3 sets of 15). Once in a while I’ll use the simple machine where you push upwards on weight. Lastly, I’ll use the machine where you pull inwards on weight and keep your elbows tight to your body. I’m realizing I’m really bad at describing these machines and photos would probably make it a lot simpler. But I wouldn’t be caught dead taking photos in my gym surrounded by meat heads, lol!

I’ll then move to the yoga room to stretch and work on abs. I really enjoy my ab workouts, as tough as they are for me. I will start on my back and do some leg raises, bringing my knees to my chest, flutter kicks, and crunches. I’ve gotten a lot better at abs since trying out the 500 crunches a week challenge. I also learned a new move in yoga, where you extend one leg and one opposite arm (the other arm supports your neck.) You then bring the extended portions up towards each other. It’s a great variation of a crunch and works out more than just your abs (I’ll do 15 for each side). Some days I will also do a minute plank, Russian twists, and the boat pose.

After all of this, some days I will go sit in the sauna that my gym provides. It feels so amazing after a tough workout and really loosens up your muscles. I hope some of this made sense, and let me know if you guys have any questions down in the comments! Do you have a favorite workout? I’d love to know! I’m still trying to get into the routine of working out regularly, but I’m really enjoying it so far and trying to build myself up to more intense workouts! I feel great, so I don’t plan on stopping any time soon! Talk to you guys tomorrow!

Blogmas Day 13: Wintery Snacks & Drinks to Try This Christmas!

Hi loves! I’m sorry this post is going up a little late, but I have had some of the busiest last couple days of the whole semester! Finals and completing my last design projects have kept me completely preoccupied, but I’m determined to keep on top of Blogmas because I flipping adore it!  I haven’t done a food haul for this Christmas season yet, so I’m bringing you a mini one today! During Halloween, I did an autumnal foods haul, which is one of my favorite posts because of the photography (check that out here!) So without further ado, here are some of my latest holiday food finds!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ahh hot chocolate. One of the simplest hot beverages and one of the most delicious for the holidays! I picked up this little can of peppermint hot chocolate a few weeks ago from Trader Joe’s. I’d say this drink is more fresh and minty than chocolatey, which I think many people would like! Personally, I love when hot chocolate is extremely sweet, but I know many would prefer the muted chocolate taste. I also really appreciate the packaging it came it. It would be so simple to put the chocolate powder in little bags and use a cardboard box, but I really appreciate the tin can in comes in and the cheerful graphics on the front.

Danish Butter Cookies

Okay, can we just take some time to appreciate this tin design?? Seriously, these graphics create a little Danish wonderland! I’m in love with the little Christmas trees, reindeers, hearts, and socks that are organized all around the packaging. The off white with the cobalt blue and red is simply gorgeous and honestly makes me want to eat these delicious cookies everyday. I’ve had butter cookies before, but for some reason this season I was really craving them! In the tin are five different cookies in unique shapes. Some have sugar sprinkled across the top, and others are simple butter cookies. They are extremely soft and have such a lovely taste. If you’ve never tried butter cookies, definitely pick these up from Trader Joe’s, you won’t regret it!

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

Drum roll please! Yes, another hot chocolate review! Could you expect anything less from me?? This one’s for those with a major sweet tooth! This hot chocolate is damn sweet and has a strong taste of salted caramel. Again, this is from Trader Joe’s and comes in an adorable little tin. I will usually heat up a big cup of water in the microwave and add about 2-3 scoops of this stuff (and of course, top with a healthy dollop of whipped cream!)

White Chocolate & Peppermint Pretzels

Last but certainly not least, these pretzels are absolutely unforgettable! They are perfect for any holiday party or just for a little bit of sweets after dinner. White chocolate isn’t something I eat very often, but it’s perfect when contrasted with the saltiness of the pretzel. The bits of peppermint on top are quite a lot, which I usually don’t like. But surprisingly it isn’t overpowering at all. I highly recommend these, but be careful, they’re a little dangerous considering the large bag! I bought these at Costco, but I have no doubt they are sold other places as well. Definitely check Target for them if you’re interested!

Alright, that’s it for tonight! I need to recover from my two finals I had today! Luckily, I have one more critique for ceramics tomorrow and I’m home for the holidays, yay!! Hope you all are doing well and if you’re a student, good luck with finishing up finals!

Blogmas Day 12: Tips To Get You Through Finals!

Hey everyone! As festive and fun as this season can be, for most students its also full of some pretty stressful days. Around this time is when the first semester ends, which means it’s time for the dreaded…FINALS!

Yep, I’m sure a lot of you know this feeling when papers and projects are piling up on top of loads of material to study for. Sometimes it feels like Christmas will never come! But never fear, I have some tricks for you to make it somewhat bearable so you can make it to Christmas dinner!

  1. Keep Calm and Carry On: This cheesy saying is relevant for the first tip. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed when most of your classes have finals coming up on the same day. Everything can get so jumbled in your brain and it can lead to a very unproductive day, which is NOT what you want during this time. I woke up today feeling a bit of this and I honestly just had to take a breath, and simply give myself a chance to organize. That can come in many forms, whether that’s making a list, using a planner, or telling yourself the exact times you are going to complete a task. Everything will be okay! Just keep organized and get to it!
  2. Get a Study Buddy! This is normally what I do for the more rigorous academic classes, especially when I was a freshman and sophomore with heavier General Ed requirements. Most likely, there are going to be topics from the beginning of the semester that you don’t quite recall, and it’s helpful to have someone else who remembers that information. And you can help them as well with the information that you have notes on. It’s like when you need another set of eyes to look at something. For finals, you need another brain!
  3. Practice Problems & Notecards: One of the last G.E.’s I’m required to take this year is math…ugh, math. I actually don’t hate it that much but it’s definitely not my thing. A tip for a math class in particular is to complete practice problems that will be similar to those on the final. The more you can physically write something out, the easier it will be to understand. I find if I write information out for any class, it really helps with memorization. Notecards have the same effect: writing out information can be very beneficial and repeating it over and over will definitely make it stick in your brain. It’s a very visual process, which works well for an art kid like me who takes school very seriously!
  4. Study Breaks: As pointless as this may seem, giving your mind a break is extremely important. If you’re studying in one or two hour chunks, give yourself a little break in between. That could be 20 minutes of simply getting a snack to fuel your brain or doing something you truly enjoy. For example when you workout, it’s good to make your heart rate go up and down in order to burn more calories. Same with studying: focus as hard as you can, then give yourself a break. It’s the only way to stay sane!

I wish I had time for more tips but if I’m being honest, I have a lot of studying to do today! But I was going to get this post up if it killed me! I hope these tricks are helpful for any of my readers who are students! Don’t stress about finals, they are just a thing and you will get through it! And by the end, you’ll be feeling like this…

Look me up, bro!

Blogmas Day 11: YouTubers You Should Be Watching This Christmas!

Hey everyone! I’ve seen so many people writing about their favorite YouTubers participating in Vlogmas this year, and that’s something I’m super familiar with and love watching! YouTube is such a great platform (excluding some of the issues they’ve had this year) and I love keeping up with the lives of my favorite content creators. For today’s Blogmas, I thought I’d share some of those with you so you can check them out as well!

MissRemiAshten (RemLife)

I’ve been watching Remi for quite some time now. It’s a funny story actually my dad recommended her to me. My dad and her dad work together, although Remi and I have never met unfortunately. Hopefully one day I will get the chance, because she seems like such a sweet and genuine person! She has such a positive attitude all the time and her videos always give me the best vibes! She has a gorgeous apartment in L.A. and has the best fashion sense. Definitely check her out if you’re into beauty, fashion, and lifestyle content!

Of course I had to include Zoella! This is another YouTuber I’ve been following for quite some time. Her Vlogmases (and even just her regular vlogs) are always quite long in length, which I really enjoy. It’s nice to have it on in the background or even just to sit and watch for a while. It feels more like an episode than a short video. This is another creator that just gives such positive vibes and I love watching her interact with her enthusiastic friends! Not to mention, she also has the best wardrobe and makeup advice! She lives in Brighton, England, which of course I wish I was too!

Tanner Braungardt

Okay so technically, Tanner isn’t doing Vlogmas. But he posts every single day anyway, so I thought I’d include him. I’ve been watching him for about a year now and for some reason there’s something super intriguing about him. He started off on Youtube doing trampoline tricks, and he is quite impressive when it comes to that. His entire family is always involved in his vlogs, which I really like. Tanner is definitely a little dare devil and his dogs are adorable. I enjoy watching him regularly, and you can tell he is a very hard worker, which I really appreciate! Definitely check him out if you haven’t hard of him before!

Maddi Bragg

Alright, here’s an interesting one. When I first starting watching Youtube, Maddi Bragg was my absolute favorite content creator! I even went to her meet and greet in Orange County! However, after she moved to L.A., she stopped posting videos. I noticed she was much more active on Instagram, which was awesome! But I definitely missed watching her videos. As of recently though, she has started posting videos again and is participating in Vlogmas. She started Youtube when she was very young, and you can definitely tell she has gone through changes. I’m assuming it’s just because she is getting older, finding different things that she likes, and getting new friends. If I’m being completely honest with you guys I prefer her older videos, but if she loves the content she’s making now, then more power to her!

I hope you guys enjoyed this little list of Youtubers! Are any of the ones I listed some of your favorites too? Or are there some great ones I didn’t mention? Let me know down in the comments so I can get some new recommendations! Talk to you guys soon! xx

Blogmas Day 10: Strolling Through the Vintage Market!

Hi loves! Today for Blogmas Day 10 I wanted to share with you a new experience I had! I’m not sure how many of you are interested in vintage markets/shopping, but I decided to go to one today for the first time! My mom just started attending one and she asked me to come too. In the past I’ve struggled with the thought of anything vintage or antique simply because I’m a germaphobe and you never know how many people have used that stuff. I thought I’d step out of my comfort zone to see if I could find anything cool. In my post about Julian (read it here), I mentioned how I found A TON of old photographs that I’m literally obsessed with. This vintage market had many similar items, and I actually ended up finding a couple things I love! So here’s a bombardment of photos from our stroll through the vintage market, let me know if you see anything you’d buy yourself!

One of my favorite parts about this market was the amount of old records and radios they had available. I have a small record collection at home, so I enjoyed looking through some of the records. It’s so cool to see antiques like these from a different time. Who knows, maybe one day our computers and iPhones will be considered a thing of the past!

If you’re a photography lover, you would’ve loved this market! I was shocked to see so many film cameras and some of the original Polaroid designs. Some of them also came with a nice camera bag! Wish I could’ve picked one of these up for myself to try out!

This was a great time to go to a vintage market because everything was extremely Christmasy! From scarves, to sweaters, to reindeers and Santas, the vendors had it all! It was actually a great place to find decorations and small items to send to friends and family. The vintage cars were decked out in Christmas wreaths and flowers, which was a really awesome touch.

I ended up buying a bunch of old photographs, like the ones I found in Julian. They are beach themed, which is perfect for me! I also ended up getting a French Nursery book. I don’t know why I love it so much. I suppose its the beautiful illustrations and the French poems. Can’t wait to read some of them to my kids one day! Hope you enjoyed the photos, let me know your thoughts down in the comments! xx
