The Only Christmas Candle You’ll Ever Need! (Blogmas Day 10)

Hello everyone! Happy Monday!! The start to a new week, so let’s make it a good one! Starting a new week is always a bit difficult for me, so I hope this post makes your day just a bit better! Firstly, I’d like to thank you guys for all the positive feedback on Blogmas this year. You guys seem to be enjoying the posts so far and that makes me SO happy!! So let’s get started with today’s post. Yesterday I did a whole Christmas grocery haul specifically from Trader Joe’s. I’m going to bounce off that today and introduce you guys to the best candle I’ve ever owned.

IMG_2834.jpeg

I’d like to mention that I’m someone who has a really hard time with candles. I absolutely adore the vibe they give. They’re so calming and the flickering of the fire is always beautiful. However, I tend to get headaches pretty easily when they’re lit, which has been a huge bummer. I get headaches pretty easily in general, but it’s always guaranteed if a candle is lit. I’ve found that soy candles tend to not have this effect, but it’s still risky. Recently though, I was introduced to this Cedar Balsam candle from Trader Joe’s from my wonderful coworkers. We’ve been burning it since before Thanksgiving because we all love it so much. It hasn’t given me a headache and I can finally enjoy the scent of Christmas!

IMG_2837-1.jpeg

The best way I can describe this candle is: Christmas in a little tin. At first, I thought it smelled exactly like a pine tree. Which has been so nice because I grew up with a fake tree my whole life. Our tree always looks beautiful and full but our house never really smells like a fresh tree. With this candle though, you 100% get that holiday vibe. Even though the scent is technically Cedar Balsam, it still reminds me of a lovely pine tree.

They had a couple large barrels of this same candle at the store, so I stocked up! Just in case they ever decide to discontinue it. Apparently, they also have a gingerbread scented candle that is even more popular! Let me know if you guys have ever heard of that candle or can vouch for how amazing it is. These candles are about $4 each, which I think is a really amazing price for a candle considering the amount of wax inside the tin. Of course, being the designer I am, I have to bring up the packaging. What else would you expect from me?? Firstly, I LOVE that it comes in an adorable silver tin. It just feels so Christmasy and appropriate for the holidays. I also love the simplicity, color, and fonts used on the label. Sometimes, it’s nice not to have the expected red or green patterns.

I hope you guys enjoyed this short little post about this awesome candle! It really is one of the best and you don’t have to deal with the crowds that are usually in places like Bath and Body Works. Let me know in the comments if you know about this candle or if you’ve tried it. See you all soon!! xx

Trader Joe’s Christmas Haul! (Blogmas Day 9)

So it’s not an unknown fact that I’m literally obsessed with anything sweet, namely chocolate. If I could eat dessert after every meal and keep thin with clear skin, I would gladly partake. However, that is definitely not practical. For the holidays though, I do tend to splurge and let myself enjoy all the Christmas goodies. Trader Joe’s, which is a healthy grocery store here in the states, always comes out with amazing holiday themed snacks. Around Halloween they always have pumpkin or apple spice options and during Christmas of course they have tons of peppermint, hot chocolate, and toffee items. You basically can’t control yourself and I’m kind of okay with that. For today’s post, I have a huge Trader Joe’s haul for your guys with some of the best Christmas treats they have to offer, or some of my favorites at least!

IMG_2854.jpeg

IMG_2838.jpeg

Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s

We’re going to start of strong with some of my absolute favorites. Most people around here know what Joe-Joe cookies are (a “healthy” alternative to Oreo cookies). During Christmas though, the store releases a peppermint version, which taste exactly like thin mints from the Girl Scouts. If you’re not careful, you’ll end up eating the whole box. Especially dipped in some almond or rice milk, you might end up in trouble.

Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe-Joe’s

Another twist on these classic cookies are the dark chocolate versions. Basically completely covered in dark chocolate and sprinkled with peppermint chunks. These are much more filling but probably one of the most delicious treats you’ll ever have. One or two will definitely satisfy you, which is good because they are quite high in calories. I’d recommend sharing these with friends or family because they’re simply way too tempting!

Peppermint Pretzel Slims

These are a great little snack if you want something sweet but also a little light. Their normal slim pretzels are covered in creamy white chocolate and again covered in peppermint pieces. These would be great snacks during a Christmas party, come to think of it! I really enjoyed all of these products during my college days. It was always so fun to shop around Trader Joe’s and have some desserts waiting for me after a long day in class.

IMG_2849.jpeg

Mini Gingerbread Men

I had actually forgot these existed when I saw them in the store! These little gingerbread men are too cute and again would be great at a Christmas party or at a family get together. The kids are bound to love them, as well as the adults because they taste so freaking good! The backs are dipped in white fudge icing and umm…who doesn’t love that?? They come in quite a big box so you’d probably only need one or two depending on the size of your party. For the little ones, these are great to leave by the fireplace for Santa 😉

IMG_2846.jpeg

IMG_2843.jpeg

Hot Chocolate, Marshmallows, and Whipped Cream

Okay, this is a little sneak peak of a post I’m planning but I couldn’t leave Trader Joe’s without the necessary components to make the perfect cup of hot cocoa. I’m the queen of hot chocolate around the holidays, and there’s nothing better than a big cup on a cold night while watching Christmas movies. Trader Joe’s offered an organic hot chocolate option. There are individual packets in the box that you simply add water to. There’s so many other ways to make hot chocolate, but this is the much easier option if you’re making multiple cups for your family. Of course, topped with some whipped cream (either in a can like this or homemade), with some mini marshmallows, you can’t go wrong!

IMG_2840.jpeg

Peppermint Bark Popcorn

This is another great option for the kiddos. Not only because of the cute packaging, but because of the actual product. Popcorn covered in chocolate with peppermint pieces! Luckily it comes in a small bag because honestly I would be all over these! In college and even at work, popcorn is the perfect snack to hold you over before lunch or dinner. Why not make it a little more festive with white chocolate and peppermint?? Sounds like a good deal to me!

Ginger Bread Spice Granola

Alright so here’s a (somewhat) healthy option for you guys! We have to at least attempt to keep a good diet around the holidays…right? Granola mixed in with candied ginger and pecans is the perfect topping for açaí bowls or coconut yogurt. I’ve been eating less açaí bowls since summer passed, but it’s still one of my favorite breakfast options. This granola is the perfect blend of summer and winter and I’m here for it! Not to mention, the packaging is gorgeous and so perfect for the holidays.

I hope you guys enjoyed this grocery haul! It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted one, but I hope it helps with your shopping list this Christmas! I’d definitely recommend any of these items, they would work great for a gift basket or as a snack before Christmas dinner. Let me know which one of these products you’d be dying to try! Talk to you all soon! xx

The Christmas Tag! (Blogmas Day 5)

What’s up everyone?? It’s Blogmas Day 5! I thought today would be a good opportunity to put up a more simple post. As well as something that’s more interactive and that you all can participate in if you like! I searched Christmas tags online and stumbled upon a ton of results! I didn’t know The Christmas Tag was at thing in this little blogger world but I’m so happy it is! The tag consists of tons of fun questions around the theme of Christmas and I encourage anyone and everyone to participate if you have a blog or Instagram (it could make a great caption to a holiday photo). However, I will also be tagging some of my favorite bloggers to participate in this tag specifically. These questions are from a blog called Makeup Savvy. So let’s kick it off!

1. What is your favorite Christmas Movie?

This is a bit of a difficult one because I love a good Christmas movie marathon at night. However, I’ll have to say “It’s a Wonderful Life” is my absolutely favorite movie. My family and I have a tradition of watching it every year on Christmas Eve night and it’s something I still want to do when I have a family of my own. It’s a black and white film from 1947 that follows a boy from childhood to adulthood. He of course falls in love but also finds himself in some messy business situations. Eventually he wishes he never existed in the first place around Christmastime, so an angel grants his wish. I won’t spoil the end for you, you’ll have to watch it yourselves but I highly recommend this American classic!

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

When I was a kid, my parents allowed my sister and I to open one present on Christmas Eve in anticipation for Christmas morning. It was always something fun like a video game that would keep us busy since we were so excited for the coming morning. Although we are both adults now and receive very different gifts, the tradition has stayed alive.

IMG_2512.jpeg

3. Do you have a favorite Christmas memory?

I think I create new favorite memories every year. We host Christmas at our home so we always have lots of family around on Christmas Day. I think I simply love spending time with my family every year that I don’t get to see too often. Yeah yeah, call me corny!

4. Favorite festive food?

I want to do a post on this soon, but Trader Joe’s offers their peppermint Joe Joe cookies in a holiday version. By that I mean dipped in chocolate with peppermint chunks on top. If you’re unfamiliar with Joe Joe cookies, they’re basically Trader Joes’ “healthy” version of an Oreo. But let’s be real, it’s probably just as bad for you, LOL! I’d say these are more of a snack or dessert but you guys know I literally cannot go a day without chocolate…I acknowledge it’s a problem. My mom and I will also do some baking for the holidays. One of my faves is a peanut butter cookie with a Hershey’s kiss in the middle. They’re to die for and make the house smell like a bakery!

5. Favourite Christmas gift?

The best Christmas gift I was every given was from my parents last year, actually! They had planned for all of us to go to London and Paris in the summer of 2018. I’ve written all about that trip and what an amazing time I had (minus my bedridden days in Paris). Traveling will always be the best gift. Especially as I’ve gotten older, experiences have becomes so valuable to me. I’ve mentioned this so many times before but London feels like a second home to me and I’ll always want to go back.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?

Again, I’ve got to hand it to Trader Joe’s! Recently my coworker has been burning the most amazing candle from there. It’s a pine tree scent that would make you believe there was a large pine tree right in the middle of our office. It’s the most Christmasy scent I’ve ever smelled and I’ve been wanting to stock up for my room at home. Most times candles give me a headache but this one hasn’t done that at all! I’d definitely recommend this if you’re sensitive to scents but still want to get into the holiday mood!

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?

I kind of answered this in the first question but I love my family’s tradition of getting all snuggled up on the couch and popping in a Blu-Ray of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” (Did anyone get my YouTube reference? Anyone?) Anyways, it will always be one of my favorite films of all time and with the lights from our tree, it makes the perfect Christmas evening.

8. What tops your tree?

Honestly, some years nothing at all! Sometimes we will tie a big bow around the top but our tree is 7 or 8 feet tall so there’s not much room for a topper.

IMG_2502.jpeg

9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?

As a kid, there is no way I could ever complain about what I received for Christmas. My parents, I mean Santa, always pulled through and got me the most thoughtful gifts. I was never disappointed and this is a feeling I hope to give to my own kids some day. I’ll always hope they feel loved and surprised every Christmas morning like I was.

10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?

Hmm, I think for me just the overall happy vibe that comes with Christmas. People get time off from work, students come home and are finished with finals, and it’s a great time to give back. Everyone always seems just a little bit happier. I know I’m definitely in a better mood when it starts to get a little bit chilly and rain starts falling (even though I don’t have the best wardrobe for cold weather). It’s also the end of one year and the start of something completely fresh and new. It’s so rejuvenating knowing a new year is coming with so many new possibilities. What better way to kick this off than with the Christmas season??

Best Places to Online Shop for the Holidays! (Blogmas Day 4)

Hello guys! Welcome to Blogmas Day 4! We all know how crazy the holidays can get, especially when you’re working or going to school. Sometimes the hours just get away from you and before you know it, you’re attempting to buy last minute Christmas gifts. One of the best ways to avoid this is to online shop! But to be real, who doesn’t love to online shop?? For today’s post, I want to make a list of the best places to online shop this holiday season to help you guys out! These are some of my personal favorite stores that I’ve bought items from before. Hope these are helpful!

Nasty Gal

Since being bought out by Boohoo.com, Nasty Gal has been having some amazing sales. On Cyber Monday they had a 60% off sale (as I’m writing this the sale is still going on), which of course I posted on my Instagram story to share the good info with you all. From what I’ve heard, they frequently have great sales going on, making it the perfect place to Christmas shop starting now! I actually bought quite a few things from their sale that I’m waiting to come in the mail. My anticipation is growing everyday and I really would love to do a try on haul for you guys once it comes! Their sale was so different from any other store because the items were actually still in style. Normally, when I go to stores like Topshop, the sale items are all from last season and not too cute anymore. Nasty Gal is killing it though and perfect for the fashion lover in your life!

Screen Shot 2018-12-02 at 9.46.32 PM.png

Tobi

I havne’t shopped on Tobi for a hot minute, but they’re stuff is always to die for. Very on trend but still so unique! They are also having some amazing sales currently, so hop on the site as soon as you can! I’ve been looking through their sweaters recently and they have some great selections. If you have a friend who lives in a colder place, it would be a great idea to send them a sweater from Tobi. I’d also recommend checking out their dresses. Especially if you have plans for New Years, I have no doubt you could find the perfect dress for you on this site!

Screen Shot 2018-12-02 at 9.47.18 PM.png

Zara

Quick disclaimer, I’ll admit that the format of the Zara site makes it a little more difficult to shop. They were definitely going for a more indie look. Nonetheless, you can still find some amazing things online! I recently got a couple purses from Zara, and I didn’t realize what amazing quality they would be! I’m sure I’ll post an OOTD soon with these bags because they’re very unique, but I’d definitely recommend checking out their selection. It feels like within the last few years Zara has become a bit more affordable. I’d compare it more to an H&M than to somewhere like Nordstrom. Which I think is great because their clothes are always super unique and their coats appear very expensive! What do you guys think about this?

Screen Shot 2018-12-02 at 9.53.25 PM.png

Kylie Cosmetics

Okay, call me basic but I actually have only had positive experiences when ordering Kylie products online. I recently posted a photo on Instagram with a burgundy lip from Kylie Cosmetics and you guys were wondering where it was from. I’ve also ordered an eyeshadow palette from the site and it arrived in perfect condition. I always worry that when ordering makeup online, it will get to me destroyed or crushed. I don’t know, maybe I’m just paranoid. Kylie does offer free shipping on domestic orders over $40 and on international orders over $60. If you’re a beauty lover, I’d definitely recommend trying out Kylie’s products if you haven’t before. I’ll be honest I never thought I’d say that, but she really does do well with her formulas.

Screen Shot 2018-12-02 at 10.13.04 PM.png

Another great site I’ll throw in here is Princess Polly. They do have a student discount, which is why I wanted to mention it but I’ve personally never bought from the site before. Let me know if this list gave you guys any good gift ideas! Sometimes it’s difficult to buy for certain people in your life, but I think you’re bound to find something amazing at one of these sites! I hope you all enjoyed Blogmas Day 4! We’re still going strong! Hope you’re all having a great week and I’ll talk to you very soon! xx

Black Friday Haul 2018!

Hello loves! For all my American readers, I hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving filled with lots of good food and family! I of course always look forward to sweet potatoes topped with roasted marshmallows, green bean casserole and of course some good ol’ turkey. Sometimes though, the real fun comes on Black Friday, when prices are low and the crowds are way too condensed. I’ll be honest I’m not one of those that gets up at 4 or 5am to jump in line at my favorite store. I actually prefer to go in after the fact or shop online. I stopped by a couple places today and found a few great things for the coming winter season (not that we actually get a cold winter here in California but I like to pretend, LOL). So for today’s post, I want to do a haul of things I got while Black Friday shopping and hopefully it’ll inspire you to embrace this new season wherever you are!

Autumnal Tones & Frayed Sleeves

Facetune-1.jpg

Facetune.jpg

Starting off strong with one of my favorite pieces from Black Friday! During fall, I always am drawn to burgundy or gray tones. I love the mix of colors in this sweater, especially because I know I’ll wear them years from now. This sweater is also very cropped, which is fitting for the SoCal weather. You can enjoy a knit sweater but not worry about getting too overheated when the sun ultimately pops out. The neckline and sleeves are also very frayed, giving it a distressed and grungey look. This would be the perfect piece to wear on Christmas day or simply to snuggle up with your special person to watch a movie. I paired it with my knit beanie from Topshop that I purchased a few years back. This sweater had a 20% discount for Black Friday, which I think is a steal considering the brand is usually a bit pricey.

Facetune-2.jpg

Normally when winter hits, I will head up to the mountains for a day and spend some time in the snow. I’d love to wear this outfit with big jacket thrown over it and maybe even a scarf depending on how chilly it is. I honestly don’t know how to dress for the snow so this is the closest I can get, LOL. But hey, sometimes being cold is the price to pay for fashion, right??

I Put a Spell on You

Image.jpgThis has to be another one of my favorite pieces from the haul. This long black cardigan really did put a spell on me. There’s something so beautiful and feminine about a fitted cardigan that reached all the way to the floor. Paired with my favorite gray hat, I feel super witchy in this outfit. I guess you could say I’m bringing back some Halloween vibes into Christmas! Especially when paired with boots, this cardigan really makes a statement. On the topic of boots, how amazing is this gray snakeskin pair from Steve Madden?! While I didn’t purchase these on Black Friday, I thought I’d give them a little shoutout because I wear them every chance I get.

Of course, I paired this cardigan with some black distressed denim because if you know me, I’ll always go for an all black look. For whatever reason, I feel very confident in all black and it’s slimming to every figure.

IMG_2144.jpeg

IMG_2183.jpeg

Underneath the cardigan I have a top I got 10% off on Black Friday. I love a good button down, and this white one that ties in the front is so versatile. It’s a piece that can be layered during winter but also worn on it’s own during the spring or summer. It’s super comfortable and I love buying simple basics like this.

Cozy by a Stormy Sea

IMG_2190.jpeg

I’ve been seeing these oversized teddy bear material sweaters all over the place lately! Most of them come in a jacket form but I found this one as a pullover. They actually didn’t have this sweater in my size, so I opted for a larger size. But honestly I really love being wrapped up in a cozy material, so I don’t mind at all. It has a very large hood, great for spending time down by the ocean on a windy day. This sweater really reminds me of sitting on the sand next to the pier, watching a stormy sea. There’s nothing more beautiful. This is another great piece if you’re going up to the snow since the material is so warm and can be layered!

IMG_2127.jpeg

More Stripes, Are You Surprised?

IMG_2187.jpeg

While I was shopping, I did a few polls on my Instagram story. I asked you guys if I should buy a certain item or leave it on the rack. I was surprised to see a lot of people thought I should leave this piece at the store. Regardless, I really loved the look of this sweater with the tie in the front and the material is extremely comfortable so I ended up buying it anyway! I love having sweaters like this to lounge around in at home, but I think this could be styled really nicely as well. I love the color and the overall laid back vibe, so I’m really happy with this purchase! It’ll be perfect for a casual work day in the office too! Let me know what you think of this piece in particular down in the comments.

IMG_2185.jpeg

I really hope you guys enjoyed this Black Friday haul. I know it’s been a while since I’ve done a fashion post, and I missed it so much! Like I mentioned in my previous post, life has continued to be a bit hectic but I’ve been focusing a lot on my health and going to the gym almost everyday. I’m slowly starting to transform my body, which has made my little break from blogging totally worth it. I hope one day I can make a transformation/how I got healthy post! Anyways, did you do any Black Friday shopping this year and what are your favorite stores? I’d love to know! Talk to you all soon! xx

First Day of Autumn OOTD!

Hey everyone! Happy Monday! It’s the start of a new week so let’s make it a great one! I want to kick this week off with an OOTD. It’s been a minute since I’ve posted one and I’ve got tons of new things for the fall. Muted tones have definitely been a big trend this year. From light pastel shades in the summer to pale yellows and auburn tones for this new season. As you know, Southern California doesn’t get extremely cold, even in the winter. Sadly, even our rainy days have become extremely limited. So although you won’t see tons of heavy jackets and snow shoes in any of my looks, I can show you the best ways to layer and get into the autumn mood even if you live somewhere warm!

Facetune-2.jpg

Facetune.jpg

I’ve taken any chance I can get to wear these pants. They’re probably some of the comfiest pants I own, partly because the fabric isn’t super thick and they move well with your body. The waist of them is so unique. The cinching really helps bring in your waist and give that old timey look. The fabric flares out near the top while a bow ties at the front to give that feminine edge. The “belt” is actually sewn to the pants so you don’t have to worry about it moving around. The black with white stripes are giving me serious Beetlejuice vibes for the Halloween time, and I kind of don’t mind!

croppants1.JPG

croppants5.JPG

It’s amazing how many looks can come from one pair of pants! I originally imagined these pants with an oversized sweater tucked into them. I’m really going for the cozy yet put together look this season. I would love to wear that outfit on a rainy day on my way to work.  For today’s OOTD though, I paired them with a simple white spaghetti strap tank and a light cardigan. Again, today was a pretty warm day so I didn’t need anything super heavy. I honestly felt super comfortable in this look but I’d totally wear it out. As for shoes, I’ve been wearing these black Rebecca Minkoff mules everywhere. I especially adore them with this outfit. They’re so easy to slip on if you’re in a hurry and I love the small jeweled details. They also carry these in white and a pale pink, but I knew personally I would wear the black ones more often.

Facetune-1.jpg

I’d also love to wear a big denim jacket with these pants. Depending on where you’re going I think a denim jacket or a cardigan like this is the best way to go. Pants like these are perfect for the work environment but can also be transformed for a fun lunch date. From the cuffed bottoms to a cozy cardigan, I’m in love with this outfit! Let me know what you think of it down below in the comments. Do you have any specific pieces that are perfect for the transition from summer to fall?

Glam Bohemian OOTD!

Hello lovelies! I’m back with another OOTD, yay! I’m sure you read the title and asked yourself, “Glam and bohemian are two completely opposite things! She’s losing it.” Well for this look, I did the impossible and combined some glam shoes with a totally bohemian dress! This fashion season is very unique, for example lots of modern western wear will be released. It’s not a particular look I’m into, but I thought I’d take a stab at mixing styles and doing something different! Here are some photos of the look, again I went with a more editorial style when it came to poses and the shoot altogether.

navydress6.JPG

navydress1.JPG

When I initially saw this dress in the shop, I wasn’t sure it was exactly my style. To be honest it kind of looked like a giant striped bag on the hanger, LOL. When I’m shopping, I try to keep an open mind though. An item on the hanger can look completely different on an actual person. I went shopping for this on my lunch break, so after my shift I was so excited to go try it on, and I’m so glad I did! When it comes to my body type, I really love when my waist is cinched and sleeves are long. This dress hit both those marks! I bought this piece at a store called Irene’s Story.

navydress3.JPG

Facetune.jpg

I’ve been buying lots of stripes lately, for no particular reason. The print is so easy to work with (if the stripes are vertical) and fun to style! I’m also completely obsessed with the giant pockets on the front! Nothing is better than finding pockets on the perfect summer dress. They’re easily overlooked but so incredibly useful! Changing up the direction of the stripes was a great detail to place on the pockets as well. This dress has a very deep V when it comes to the neckline. I wore this to work with a small white tank top underneath and it worked perfectly. If you need to cover up a bit for work, a simple white tank top is the easiest way to do that and still look bomb!

navydress2.JPG

navydress5.JPG

Now onto the shoes! I recently bought these Steve Maddens for work. They have two thick straps on the top and one around the ankle, secured with velcro. Since I’m on my feet all day, I need shoes that don’t have much of a heel but are still fashionable. The platform on these shoes are completely flat, so I don’t get that sharp pain in my heels. I’m actually shocked by how easy they are to walk in for over 8 hours! The thick platform is completely white, which is one reason I paired them with this dress. They compliment the white stripes so nicely in my opinion! I’ve also never had a pair of shoes that are so metallic and a rose gold color. Rose gold has been such a popular color lately, and for some reason I love how they contrast with my bohemian dress.

navydress4.JPG

Facetune-1.jpg

As for accessories, I wore my gray bralette underneath and a new necklace I bought recently. It’s very minimalistic and works with so many outfits for the summer. As for my watch, I have a post coming very soon so hang in there! 😉 There’s something very special waiting for you guys!

I hope you enjoyed today’s OOTD! I really love this dress and how adjustable it is with the drawstring waistline. I genuinely think this kind of dress would work well for any body type! Just like a wrap dress, it is very customizable to your own body. Let me know what you think of mixing glam and bohemian down in the comments below! Hope you all are having an amazing summer so far and I’ll talk to you in the next post! Love you lots! xx
