My Winter Makeup Routine 2018!

Hello everyone! It’s been a little bit. For so long now I’ve been wanting to get another video up on my YouTube channel. Making a video takes a lot more time than getting a blog post up, but I’m so excited I got another one done! I’ve specifically been wanting to create a makeup routine, and with the holidays coming up, it seemed like the perfect time to finally make it. Being in the middle of winter, I prefer not to wear too much heavy makeup. For example a full coverage foundation or tons of eyeshadow. I’ve also been having some difficulties with my skin again, so I’ve been trying to wear as minimal makeup as possible. In this video is a simple routine that is very easy to follow. I like my brows natural and my wings subtle. With that being said, here is the video!

With each new video I’ve made, editing has becoming an easier and quicker process. It’s been awesome to see my skills improve each time, so I really hope you guys have been enjoying! I believe that even with bad skin, you can still have fun with makeup and I hope that’s apparent in my video. While most of my issues deal with scarring which can easily be covered up by concealer, I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with makeup and finding new ways to get creative. Especially with Christmas coming up tomorrow and the new year just days away, it’s the perfect time to try something new. Let me know what you thought of the video below in the comments. Maybe drop a like and subscribe if this is the first time you’re seeing my videos!

Simple Tricks to Keep Your Skin Clear This Season!

Hey everyone! As you may know, skin and the topic of acne has been a recurring theme here on the blog. It’s been a huge part of my life and something that has affected me for years. When it comes to my skin, you name it, I’ve tried it! But sometimes after all the steps, companies, and various products you could go through, it’s the simplest procedures you can do yourself that will make the biggest difference. Lately, my skin has not been very clear, so after lots of time trying to figure out why that was, I decided to take a step back and think about the basics. Here is a little list for you guys about the best ways to keep your skin clear through all the holiday festivities!

  • Drink water! I thought I’d start off with the easiest, most straightforward tips you’ve probably heard a million times before. Drinking water is one of the best things you could do for your skin and your body in general! Up to 60% of our bodies are made of water so why wouldn’t you hydrate the heck out of it?? Through busy schedules, I know it is extremely easy to forget about drinking water, but that’s no bueno. I’ve gotten in the habit the last four years of college to bring a hydroflask with me everywhere I go. If I don’t drink enough water, I end up getting pretty bad headaches as well. So all around for me, water is absolutely essential!
  • Clean your makeup brushes! Ah the dreaded and often forgotten chore of cleaning the makeup brushes. You should be cleaning your makeup brushes about every couple weeks if not more than that. Brushes and beauty blenders collect so much bacteria and oil from your skin and if they are not cleaned often, it could end in a pretty bad breakout. I understand this from personal experience. I’ll be the first to admit I’m extremely bad about cleaning my makeup brushes. It’s just something that isn’t at the top of my to do list…and it really should be! Whenever I have any major breakouts, I ask myself when the last time I cleaned my brushes was. I have an entire post about how I clean my makeup brushes here if you’d like to check it out, it’s really very easy just time consuming!
  • Wash your sheets! Another idea you wouldn’t think would cause breakouts! But the sad reality is that if you don’t clean your sheets often enough, your pillowcase will cause you to flare up. I usually clean my sheets every other week to try and avoid this. I also just love feeling clean, comfy and cozy in my bed so it’s a habit I’ve gotten myself into. Specifically freshman year of college I was religious about changing my sheets every other week on the dot!
  • Don’t workout with makeup on! There have been times in my life where I felt like I had to cover up my breakouts before working out. I look back on this and I just want to scream at myself! This is probably one of the worst things you could do if you’re mid breakout. Just the thought of having makeup on my skin and my pores opening up while running makes me cringe. You already sweat when you workout, so adding insult to injury by having a face of makeup on won’t do you any favors. I’ve come to the point in my life when even though I have breakout every now and again, I will never go to the gym with foundation on. Never ever again! However, this semester I have been taking yoga/sculpting class which has been surprisingly challenging! I have a design class right before yoga so I have a full face of makeup on. I think one of the main causes of my breakouts lately is going to yoga with this makeup on and working out in it. That’s been the only down side to having yoga in the middle of the day. I unfortunately have no time to remove it between classes. Luckily the class will end soon and I won’t ever have to sweat in makeup again!
  • Wash your face twice a day! Another fairly obvious tip. I use the face wash Cetaphil once in the morning and once before I go to bed. It’s very foamy and gentle and has worked very well for my skin the last couple years. When looking for a new face wash, try to avoid anything with beads in it and look for something softer. I also recommend finding a good face mask that really works well for your skin. Everyone is different, so you may have to experiment a little to find the perfect product for you. I’ve done so many face masks in the past and I’ve mentioned this before, but the Lush Mask of Magnaminty is one of the crown jewels in my skincare routine. I try to use it at least a couple times a week and it leaves my skin feeling refreshed and new. Wow, that totally sounded like a scam commercial, but I promise this product is a keeper!

That’s about it for my skincare list! Do you have any tips or tricks that keep your skin free of breakouts? I’m always looking for new home remedies to try out! Comment down below if you’d like to share or if you liked this list! Talk to you guys tomorrow for a little surprise announcement! xx

Tips and Tricks to Healthier Skin!

Hello beautiful friends! Hope you all are having the loveliest of days. Lately I’ve been thinking a bit about skincare and my long experience with acne. I even have a YouTube video all about my journey with acne! It’s been long and difficult, but I think at this point where my skin is the best it’s ever been, I can share a few tips with others going through a similar struggle. So keep on reading if you want a few quick tricks to keep your skin young and bright!

  1. Drink A TON of water: I know this tip is probably mentioned on every beauty blog or beauty related video out there. But there is a reason for that: it works! Recently I’ve been making a huge effort to constantly drink water throughout the day and I can tell it’s making a difference in my skin. It’s smoother and it even seems some of my breakouts are healing faster. Not only that, drinking water helps with weight loss, and who doesn’t want to lose a few pounds simply by drinking water?! Sign me up!
  2. Moisturize: Throughout my life, I wasn’t very consistent with moisturizing my face. Throughout the last 6 months, I’ve been much better about using moisturizer and I can say it’s made a 100% difference. My redness has subsided and my skin has seriously never been smoother. I have been using La Mer, which by now I sound like a broken record because I’m so freaking obsessed with it and I mention it every chance I get! I believe in it so much that if you are at the last straw with your skin, please please PLEASE try it! If not that, Clinique has a great moisturizer as well. Whatever your preference, be sure to moisturize consistently, morning and night!
  3. ALWAYS remove your makeup: This may seem like an obvious one, but I remember my times in high school where I would stay out super late and be too exhausted to take off my makeup. I would go to bed with my makeup on!!! Can you imagine that?? I could never ever do that in my life now. And if you’re one of those people, STOP! (LOL) But in all seriousness, clogging your pores while you sleep for hours is not doing you any favors. It will cause major breakouts and not lead to healthy skin. I always remove my makeup before bed with the Neutrogena face wipes and wash with Cetaphil (which is another product I swear by).
  4. Avoid sweets at all cost: This is something I still struggle with and am trying to control. I have such a strong sweet tooth all the time, but it leads to some serious breakouts. Whenever I breakout on my chin or along my jawline, I know I have eaten too many sweets (particularly chocolate). What can I say, it’s my weakness. So my advice to you is, try to get off the chocolate/candy addiction as early as possible. If you’re breaking out on that part of your face, try analyzing what you’ve been eating, and I bet it’s sweets. Cut that out and you’ll be peachy!
  5. Understand that breakouts will happen from time to time: This tip refers specifically to women. I totally get that acne is super frustrating, but for us women it tends to flare up every month around our periods. Every month I get a little annoyed when my acne flares up slightly, but I know its from my period. The trick is to know that there is a reason it’s happening and it will subside towards the end of your cycle. It won’t last forever and all will be fine once it’s over! Try to keep your head up!

So there’s a short little read for you regarding skin health and clarity. For me it’s been years and years of trying to get it to where it is now. And I totally know many, many people go through exactly the same thing. Try using these little tips and tricks to keep your skin healthy and glowing. Let me know what works best for your skin in the comments below!

Small Target Fall Haul!

Small Target Fall Haul!

IMG_9476autumnHey guys! So I went to Target only looking for a pillow to make my bed at school a little more comfy and cozy. However, I ended up finding a few more things to feel even more autumnal. I’ll start with the pillow though. It’s faux fur and cream colored with gray streaks at the end of each strand. It almost looks like the fur of a wolf. I think fur is perfect for the fall/winter time and can really warm you up. It has finally started to get chilly in San Diego, so I’m super happy I have this one now. (I’m waiting for another cream colored faux fur pillow to come in the mail). Target has some great pillows like this and warm wintery blankets right now!

I also picked up some tea for those chilly, rainy nights. I love the Yogi brand and I’ve never tried this Cinnamon Vanilla flavor before, so I thought I’d try it out. It says it supports healthy skin, so I thought, hey, why not? It’s also caffeine free, which is a huge plus because I definitely cannot handle caffeine.

Next is an adorable copper colored tin mug. I absolutely love the shape of this little mug and its totally perfect for the season. WARNING: only use this mug for cold liquids, unless you want to risk the chance of burning your hand like I did. Other than that, I’m loving this thing and if all else fails, it’ll look super cute sitting on a shelf for decoration.

Lastly, doesn’t exactly fit my fall theme, but it’s a tube of mascara. I’ve been trying to test out a couple different mascaras to see which one I like best. I always buy my mascara from Target since it’s the cheapest option and I don’t really have a need for high end mascara. However, I’m currently going to try out these Falsies from Maybelline. Let me know if you guys have a favorite cheap mascara!

Hope you all had a great week and have some fun plans for the weekend! ❤

Lush: Grease Lightning

Lush: Grease Lightning

lush

Just found this great new product at Lush! I have had skin problems for years now and I think this has actually helped a little. It’s called Grease Lightning and it is a spot treatment for acne. I put this on in the morning on new breakouts. It dries really fast so I put my makeup right on over it. It’s not a thick solution so it’s very easy to apply. I also love that it doesn’t have a color to it. It’s clear so you don’t have to worry about it affecting your makeup in any way.

I notice the day after I apply it that my breakout is smaller and some of the redness is gone. The ingredients that make up this product are extremely good for anyone’s skin. It’s made of thyme, rosemary, tea tree, aloe vera, witch hazel, and more! I love how it’s all natural and not made of chemicals. Not to mention, this stuff lasts forever! I first took a small sample to try it out and that little sample lasted me at least a couple weeks! Thank goodness this bottle will last me a while as well. When I went into my Lush store back home, there was only one bottle left, so this must be a popular product of theirs.

Definitely try this out if you’re having some skin issues! This product was only $15.

Hey guys! I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in a week. It’s been hectic adjusting to school and my new schedule. Nevertheless, I’m not going to stop blogging! Anyways, I wanted to share with you guys a product that is absolutely essential for this crazy hot weather. Where I’m going to school, we hit the beach nearly every weekend and even some weekdays. It’s awesome, but I have a tendency to not wear sunscreen for hours and I end up getting pretty burned. This does turn into a tan, but I’m trying to be a little more careful with my skin.

In case I do get sunburned, I like using aloe to soothe the burn. This is a well known remedy for sunburns. I bought this big bottle at Trader Joe’s and it’s just your typical aloe solution. (It also doesn’t test on animals, which is always a plus!) I don’t only use this for burns though, I use it as a day to day moisturizer as well. Aloe is great for anyone’s skin, so I definitely recommend it for any skin type! Especially if you’re dry or your skin needs some livening up, this is the product for you! Love you all and hope you’re having a fantastic start to the school year! ❤

Pink Warm and Cozy Shimmer Mist

The Pink Warm and Cozy Shimmer Mist is perfect for the sunny weather. This body spray has shimmery glitter inside, which makes your skin glow in the sun. It’s a very subtle effect but is beautiful when noticed. The glitter is not overbearing at all and the scent is rosy and sweet. I believe they carry all the other Pink scents in this glitter edition as well. This large size bottle is perfect as well since it will last you a long time. This isn’t like a perfume either where you can only use a little at a time. It can definitely be reapplied throughout the day since it’s a body spray and you can have a continual glitter effect from sunrise to sunset!
